The Central Oklahoma Community Action Agency (COCCA) recently announced the availability of weatherization grants. The goal of the grant program is to assist in helping citizens to conserve energy and improve their quality of life. Making home improvements such as replacing broken glass, caulking around windows and doors, replacing thresholds, weather-stripping and insulation will aid in keeping cold air out in the wintertime and heat out in the summertime. In some cases, the replacement and/or repair of appliances will be considered, as well as repair of heating systems. As a rule, grants will cover the cost of the improvements or repairs, but will not exceed $6500 per household.

Once an application is accepted, the COCAA staff will make an evaluation, or assessment, of the residence and will provide the workers to perform the work.

While both homeowners and renters are eligible to for the weatherization grants, certain income guidelines do apply. Guidelines are based on income and the number of members in the family.

Family of 1: $21,660; family of 2: $29,140; family of 3: $36,620; family of 4: $44,100;

family of 5: $51,580; family of 6: $59.060;

family of 7: $66,540.

Applications are available Monday - Friday at the following locations and times: COCAA Office located at 122 N. Cleveland between 9 a.m. and noon; City of Cushing Utility Office at City Hall between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.; and the Cushing Senior Citizen Center located at 203 E. Cherry between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Completed applications should be submitted to the COCAA Office at P.O. Box 486, Shawnee, OK 74802.

For questions, call Mr. Phil Hudson of the COCAA staff at 405-275-6060, or at 1-800-256-5940.

COCCA serves citizens in Payne, Cleveland, Pottawatomie, Seminole, Logan and Lincoln counties.
