(Cushing) - This morning just after 9:00 a.m., Cushing police were called to Baker Pharmacy, 1022 E. Cherry Street, after Cushing resident Marcelino Terry Venegas, WM, 27, tried to pass a forged prescription to obtain the painkiller Lortab.
Cushing police Detective Adam Harp and MPO Bill McCarty were sent to the pharmacy after an employee questioned the validity of the prescription that was being presented. Police arrived and talked to pharmacy employees, who had already spoke with the alleged issuing medical practitioner, in addition to talking to Venegas himself.
Through their investigation, Detective Harp learned Venegas allegedly stole the blank prescription and forged the information, which he then tried to use to obtain the prescription painkiller.
Detective Harp and MPO McCarty arrested Venegas for allegedly trying to obtain the prescription painkiller Lortab with a forged prescription and possession of stolen property, which was identified as the prescription itself. Venegas was arrested without incident, and taken to the Cushing jail where he is being held this morning.
"I really commend the attention to detail by the Baker Pharmacy employee. When something did not appear right, the employee did the right thing and questioned it, which in the end, kept a potent painkiller from being illegally obtained." Deputy Chief Tully Folden said. "The thorough, expeditious manner in which Detective Harp and MPO McCarty handled this investigation reflects our commitment to service. This arrest continues our commitment to a safe, livable Cushing."
