(Cushing, Okla.) The anticipation was already great wondering who would be named the 'Best Dad in the World' when an early morning lightning strike Friday took out a transformer at the station. Would the KUSH Girls be able to announce the winner of the KUSH Father's Day promotion in time for Father's Day?
It was a close call, but the electric company was able to replace the transformer and get KUSH up and running for the final segment of the Donna & Molly Show - just in time to make the big announcement.
Somehow it seemed appropriate that the winner - Bob "the weather guy" Noltensmeyer - would have the big news delayed due to weather.
Noltensmeyer, who was nominated by his daughter Joyce Abrams, had no idea he was even in the running. "It came as a complete surprise to me," he said Tuesday on the Donna & Molly Show. "I want to thank KUSH, all the sponsors - and my daughter. I've never gotten anything like this before."
Abrams and her father picked up the gift bag full of goodies on Saturday - just in time for Father's Day - but Tuesday was the first time Noltensmeyer was able to read what his daughter had to say. "This is pretty special," he said - obviously touched by her words.
Here is what she had to say:
"What can I say about my daddy? Even though he's not my biological father, he has always been there and treated me like his own. He has been a part of my life for 35 years. Daddy is one of my biggest supporters. No matter what has happened in my life or is currently going on, he is always there to cheer me on. Not only is he there for me (no questions asked), he gives of himself countless hours and many sleepless nights to help keep our community safe. Not many people know what goes on behind the scenes when storms come in, but he handles the pressure with ease. He's very active in the church and Lion's Club and is a pillar in our community. He is one of the most hard working men I know and always puts his family first. I am proud to say that Bob Noltensmeyer is my daddy. I know this isn't worded the best, but it's so hard to put into words exactly how I feel." ~Joyce Abrams
