(Cushing, Okla.) The Cushing Chamber of Commerce Business After School honoring January recipients was held on Monday, January 30, 2017. Business After School is a Chamber program that honors Cushing’s education community.

Each month, one educator, one support staff and two high school seniors are honored. A reception is held at 4 p.m. in the Cushing Chamber of Commerce board room the last Monday of each school month (with the exception of September and December). Receptions are open to the public.

Those honored for the month of January were: Brittani Baker, Cushing Lower Elementary, Larry McFarlin, Central Office, Karlea Jones, senior and Jimmy Le, senior.

A little bit about the honorees:

Teacher of the month is Brittani Baker. Brittani is married to her high school sweetheart, Kyle Baker. Her hobbies include hosting game nights, dinners and parties for family and friends. She enjoys women Bible study groups and loves to shop! She and her husband serve as youth sponsors/leaders for the 6th-12th grade at the Free Will Baptist Church. Brittani says, “I have Jesus in my heart and glitter in my veins!!” During her free time, she enjoys date nights with her husband, watching Hallmark with her mom and loving on her nieces. When asked if she could take a trip anywhere that cost her nothing, she would enjoy a summer trip to Hawaii.

Larry McFarlin is the support staff of the month. He has been married to “the best wife in Oklahoma”, Shelia for 28 years. They have two children, Seth McFarlin and wife Emily and Alicia Brown and husband Cody. He is an active member of Shiloh Ministries of Oilton. Larry has been with the Cushing Schools for 7 years and would like to thank Koln Knight and Chris Hubbard for his employment and Janice, Melissa, Linda, Karen, Tammy and Dustin for putting up with him.

Karlea Jones, CHS senior, is the daughter of Jeffery and Amy Jones. She has a sister, Taylor and brother, Ian. Her hobbies are basketball, track, football manager, organizing and taking naps. Karlea is a member at Oak Grove Baptist Church. She is also in the gifted and talented program at CHS. Her favorite foods are pickles and sour candy. Karlea would like to spend the day with Jesus Christ because, “Who wouldn’t want to spend the day with the creator of the universe?” She is very athletic and states, “Give me a ball, I can put it through the hoop or tell me to jump and I will jump far (long jump).” She sees herself in the next five years with a degree doing something she loves.

Jimmy Le, CHS senior, is the eldest son of Tienny Le and Sinh Tran. He is two brothers, Phillip and Andy, and one sister, Emily. He enjoys volunteering his spare time at school events and listening to music. A book he has read lately is “12 Years A Slave” and his favorite part is when the main character is reunited with his family. Jimmy is a member of River of Life Church in Drumright. His favorite food is any kind of pizza. Something Jimmy said he does really well is “helping people with anything.” In five years, he sees himself in college and would like to be in a medical program in Florida.
