The world was a better place with Mack Harris in it but he was called to make his transition February 13, 2017. John McElhannon Harris, Jr., Edmond , Oklahoma was born September 11, 1959, in Seminole, Oklahoma , the son of John and Loretta Franklin Harris. He had a sister Tracey Elizabeth.
The family moved to Shawnee in 1969 and Mack attended school in Dale, Oklahoma where he excelled scholastically and athletically. When he graduated in 1977, he was voted Dale’s Most Valuable Player in Baseball and Basketball.
Mack subsequently received scholarships to attend East Central University at Ada and graduated With High Honors as one of the top ten Students at ECU. He received his BS degree in Math with minors in Computer Science and Physics.
In 1981, he began his working career as a Computer Scientist with Conoco Oil Company and subsequently Computer Science Corporation, retiring in 2016 with 35 years of service.
He married Diane Dieman in 1987 and they had one daughter, Megan Lee Harris in 1992.
Mack was a member of St. Paul ‘s United Methodist Church in Shawnee and attended Crossings Community Church after moving to Edmond .
Mack was preceded in death by his father John M. Harris. He is survived by his daughter Megan Lee Harris, his sister Tracey Elizabeth Harris, his mother Loretta Franklin Jones, and a host of loyal, devoted friends who remained faithful and steadfast during his long battle with brain cancer.
A Celebration of Mack’s Life will be held at the Will Rogers Theater, 4322 N. Western Avenue, Oklahoma City, at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 18, 2017.
Arrangements are under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Perkins, Ok.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mack’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
