Ronald Lee Thompson, of Perkins, Ok., passed from this life to his eternal home on Friday evening March 24th at the age of 76. He was surrounded by loved ones.

Ron was born on March 2, 1941 in Rochester, New Hampshire to Almon E. and Evelyn M. (Sevieri) Thompson. He grew up in Fitchburg, Massachusetts where he was active in football, hockey, basketball and baseball. Upon his graduation from Fitchburg High School in 1959, he signed a contract to catch for the Boston Red Sox organization with whom he played until 1963. In recognition of his athletic accomplishments, in 2003 he was inducted into the Fitchburg High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Ron married his love and partner for life, Joan A. Crawley on October 5, 1963 in Leominster, Mass. To this union two children, David and Susan, were born.
For the next 40 years Ron worked as a machinist and tool maker. This took he and his family to Arlington, Tx., and then to Columbia, MO. For many years he coached, played and refereed hockey and baseball as well as becoming an avid golfer. Upon his retirement from 3M Company in 2003, he moved to Perkins, Ok to be closer to family.
Ron loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and his dog Wilson. He enjoyed playing golf with his buddies at Cimarron Trails Golf Course, taking care of his yard, traveling and of course watching his Boston Red Sox team. He was an active member of Cimarron Valley Church, past president of the Perkins Lions Club and up until his death, a member of the City of Perkins Planning Commission.
Ron is survived by his wife Joan of the home, son David Thompson and wife Karen of Pflugerville, Tx., daughter Susan J. Rochat of Stillwater, Ok., brother Allen Thompson and wife Donna of The Villages in Fl., grandchildren Lauren Kershner, Stephanie Thompson, Allison Thompson, Evan Rochat and Amanda Rochat, great grandchildren Desiree and Karah Kershner and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of His Life is planned for Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 2pm at the Cimarron Valley Church, 901 Sadler Rd., Perkins, Ok.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cimarron Valley Church or Charity of Choice.
