OKEMAH, OK (April 12, 2017) — The Woody Guthrie Coalition will welcome relatives of Woody Guthrie to Okemah for the 20th Annual Woody Guthrie Folk Festival July 12-16. The musical celebration of the folk singer’s 105th birthday will host Arlo Guthrie, Anna Canoni, Cole Quest and the City Pickers, and Folk Uke during its 20th year.

Headlining musical acts set to perform the landmark 20th year will include Arlo Guthrie (the late Guthrie’s son); Cole Quest (the late Guthrie’s grandson) and the City Pickers; and folk duo Cathy Guthrie (the late Guthrie’s granddaughter) and Amy Nelson (Willie Nelson’s daughter), who perform as Folk Uke. Anna Canoni, Guthrie’s granddaughter and senior operations manager of Woody Guthrie Publications of New York, is scheduled to present “Woody Guthrie: Legacy,” a 16-minute documentary short directed by John Paulson. This documentary was created for the “This Land Is Your Land: The Life & Legacy of Woody Guthrie” exhibit, which toured around the United States from 1998-2001. Not available for view anywhere else, this documentary short features Billy Bragg, Wilco, Ani DiFranco, U2, Bob Dylan and many more artists who have brought Guthrie’s music to life. Following the screening, the program includes a presentation of original lyrics by Woody Guthrie.

The internationally acclaimed festival honoring the legendary folk singer in his hometown of Okemah, Oklahoma, continues to pay tribute to Woody Guthrie through songs, communion, scholarship, tradition, storytelling and songwriting. The festival is made possible, in part, by a grant provided by the Oklahoma Arts Council. Sponsors include the George Kaiser Family Foundation, the Sam Viersen Family Foundation, the Woody Guthrie Center, Woody Guthrie Publications and BancFirst.

The Woody Guthrie Folk Festival is organized by the Woody Guthrie Coalition, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization made up of an entirely volunteer team. The coalition preserves Guthrie’s music and legacy through live performances & presentations by artists that write and perform in the spirit of Woody Guthrie.
