Scholarship and Awards Assembly Held at CHS

Cushing, Okla. – Cushing High School recently held an awards/scholarships ceremony in which about 90 students from Cushing High School received scholarships.


The ceremony, which got underway at 9 am and lasted until about 11 am on Friday, May 12th (2017), took place in the Dora Hobbs Auditorium on the Cushing High School campus.


Area businesses and clubs were on hand to present the awards/scholarships which ranged in amounts from $250 to approximately $50,000 for a full ride scholarship.   Cushing Lions Club was among the ones presenting scholarships.  Those scholarships were $1,000 each and were presented by Lions Club President Lou Griffin, and went to Sterling Koehn and Alexa Ostmeyer.


About 10 scholarships were given to Oklahoma State University, and approximately seven scholarships were given to Oklahoma University.


Oklahoma Promise is a program that offers qualified Oklahoma students an opportunity to earn a scholarship for college tuition. The requirements include being an Oklahoma resident, enroll in the 8th, 9th or 10th grade, and your family income must not exceed $50K per year. (Oklahoma Promise Scholarships are $40,000 to $50,000.)


The President’s Education Award Program is based on recognizing individual students whose outstanding efforts have enabled them to meet challenging standards of excellence.
