Fatality Collision Leaves 2 Injured
(Cushing, Okla.) The following information is based on a preliminary collision report furnished by the Department of Public Safety (DPS).
A fatality injury collision that occurred on June 16th (2017) at about 11:57 pm on Interstate 40 Eastbound at MM 191, 5 miles east of Shawnee, in Pottawatomie County, OK.
Cassandra Hanks (49) of Noble was driving a 1994 Dodge Dakota pick-up eastbound on I-40, when Jessica Thomas (29) of Prague was also eastbound I-40 in a 2012 Toyota Prius when her Prius hit the Dodge from behind. This caused the Dodge to depart the roadway right and overturn twice before coming to rest. Hanks and her passenger Brittaney Jay (31) of Norman were both ejected.
Hanks’ was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. Jay was transported by REACT to O.U. Medical Center (OKC). Thomas was treated and released at Saint Anthony’s (Shawnee).
According to the DPS report seat-belts were not in use in the Dodge at the time of the collision.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation at this time (according to the DPS report).
