Paula Marie Strader Johnson Rodgers, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017 in Cushing, two days following her 99th birthday.
Paula was born in Yale, Oklahoma on June 23, 1918 to Harry Paul and Ella Lee Daugherty Strader and was raised and educated in the Maramec and Jennings area.
At the age of 15, she and John Johnson were married on September 7, 1933 in Pawnee, Oklahoma and to this union two sons Tommy and Sammy were born. That marriage ended in divorce in 1942. On August 30, 1947, she married Donald Rodgers, Sr. in Stillwater, Oklahoma. They made their home in Ripley, Oklahoma until she moved to Cushing in September of 2009. To that union, three children were born, Evalee, Don Jr and Edward.
Paula was a long time member of the Church of Christ in Ripley and now belonged and attended the Cushing Church of Christ. Paula’s hobbies were feeding and watching the birds; she enjoyed going to the Senior Citizens and playing bingo and being a volunteer at Project Heart in Cushing. She was employed several years in Stillwater at Fry’s Fabric Store, Sewing Circle Fabric Store and retiring from J.C. Penney’s in 1979. She also served on the Silver Haired Legislature. Paula enjoyed get togethers with her family, and she was always the one in charge.
Paula is survived by five children, Tommy Johnson and his wife, Ruth Ann, of Cushing, Sammy Johnson and his wife, Sharon, of Lakeview, Arkansas, Evalee Frazier of Cushing, Don Rodgers and his wife, Terry, of Ripley and Edward Rodgers and his wife, Cinda, of Oklahoma City; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law Velma and Ed Parham of Tulsa; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
In addition to her parents and both husbands, Paula was preceded in death by three brothers, one grandson, one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 10:00 AM in the Cushing Church of Christ, 9th & Linwood, with Ken Murrell officiating.
Burial will follow in the Oak Dale Cemetery in Agra.
The family will greet friends on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Floyd Family Center, East of the Funeral Home.
