Edward G Bryant Jr., longtime Cushing resident, died Monday, July 24, 2017, at Norman Regional Health System, in Norman; he was 86 years old.

Born June 18, 1931, in Cushing Oklahoma, he was the son of Edward G. Bryant, Sr. and Dorothy McLean. Edward grew up in Cushing and attended Cushing schools. Ed was class president of the Cushing High School Class of 1949. A member of Cushing’s 1949 football team, he played center and had kept in touch with the long admired members of that “Championship” team.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and returned to Cushing after the war to attend classes at both the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University. Ed graduated from OSU with a degree in Zoology, which he received from his grandfather, S.A. Bryant, who was then a member of the State Board of Regents of Higher Education.

Edward moved to Norman in 2015 to be near his sister. Before that he lived in Tulsa and had a long career as a medical technologist at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.

Preceded in death by his parents, Edward G and Dorothy E McLean Bryant; his grandparents S.A. and Mary Bryant; and Mr. and Mrs. O.E. McLean.

Ed is survived by his sister Jane of Norman; six cousins, Dennis Cubbage of Bartlesville, Stephen Cubbage of Tulsa, Bill Cubbage of Cushing, Ken Cubbage of Norman, John Bryant of Cushing and Betty Shaull of Tulsa.

Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, August 5, 2017 in the St. Alban’s Episcopal Church where he served as an acolyte for a number of years.

Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery.
