Mary “Ellen” Courtney Morphew

Mary “Ellen” Courtney Morphew was born in Akin, Texas on December 7, 1926 to William and Oline Courtney. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 2, at Drumright Hospital after a long battle with Alzheimers. She was 90.

She was married to Bill Morphew on September 22, 1944 in Eagleville, California. They had two children, a son Ron Morphew and daughter, Mary (Morphew) Matlock.

She loved crocheting and making doilies, table clothes, and bedspreads. She shared all of these with family and friends.

She worked at Yale Public School as a cook for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Yale for over 25 years.

Her greatest joy in life was taking care of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter Mary and husband Roy Matlock, granddaughters, Terri Matlock and Cammie (Matlock) Pruitt and husband, Skip, two great grandchildren Morgan and Parker Pruitt, one brother, Cecil Courtney and his wife, Lena, one daughter-in-law, Joanne Morphew. Ellen is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Bill Morphew, son Ron Morphew, brothers Pete, Norman, Ronald, and Bud Courtney.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Yale.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 6, 2017 at Underwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday November 5, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
