Ethel Gayle Sager
Palmer Marler Funeral Home
Ethel Gayle Sager danced her way into heaven on Thursday, November 9th surrounded by family and loved ones. On December 13, 1931, she graced the earth as the 6th youngest of 7 children to Arthur Preston Gentry & Ethel Flanders-Gentry in Boynton, OK. She grew up between Cushing, Oklahoma & Drumright, OK.
Gayle met the love of her life, Melvin Lee Sager, at a dance when he stole her from another and swept her off her feet. They married on September 3, 1950 and where married for 49 glorious years. Melvin & Gayle made their home in Perkins, Oklahoma where she worked as a city treasurer for the city of Perkins for 29 years before retiring. They were blessed with 5 beautiful children throughout their lives together in Perkins.
Summers were spent as a family at the lake in a refurbished school bus that was converted into an RV camper. You could always find her laying by the water, cooking for her family, or laughing with her many friends. She enjoyed a good horse race with the best of them, loved good entertainment, fabulous road trips with friend or family, a good practical joke, member of the bowling league, a challenging game of cards, and most of all dancing. So much so that after 80 years she decided her skill set was not good enough, so signed herself up for dance lessons at the local VFW taking classes weekly. She showed off her new moves at her 80th birthday party celebrating her journey thus far.
Her philosophy in life was simple — “to live”! Embrace every moment and enjoy the precious gift God gave us. She held her family ever so close to her heart, loving them unconditionally through all trials and tribulations. She taught them how to play a mean game of cards, how to cook the best pecan pies ever, to never be afraid to try something new, but most importantly, she leaves them with an amazing example of how “TO LIVE!!”
