Alice Joyce Tucker Sumlin was considered by those who knew her, extraordinary, kind hearted, encouraging, independent, inspiring, a hard worker and spent her life enjoying being a mother and grandmother. She was truly A Woman For All Seasons. Born in Cushing, Oklahoma, October 5, 1950, she was the fifth of six children born to Leonard, Sr. and Alice who preceded her in death in addition to one brother, Thomas Tucker and two grandchildren, Quincey & Whitney Caldwell. Joyce loved the Lord; she accepted Christ at an early age and was a member at First Baptist Church North, Cushing, Oklahoma and later was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church, Chandler, Oklahoma until death. Educated in the Cushing Public Schools, she attended Booker T. Washington School and graduated from Cushing High School with the Class of 1968. After graduating from high school, Joyce wanted to pursue a career in nursing and attended nursing school. Later, becoming the first woman in maintenance within the State of Oklahoma/Department of Transportation after completing Truck Driving School she paved the way for women. She had a lifelong career weathering every season and spent thirty – four (34) years with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation retiring on December 31, 2012.

Joyce united in marriage to Phillip D. Sumlin in the Fall of 1967. To this union three children were born; Felicia Rae, Karon Shawn and Phillip Maurice. Her family and church were the center of Joyce’s life and she had unconditional love for her grandchildren and never missed an event. Joyce loved coloring, reading, watching old movies and cooking.

Joyce heard the voice of the Lord and departed this earthly life to begin her eternal life on December 31, 2017.

She leaves to cherish her memory and continue her legacy, three children, Felicia Sumlin-Willis of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Karon (Phillip) Caldwell of Cushing, Oklahoma and Phillip Maurice (Brenda) Sumlin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. two brothers, Donald (Teresa) Tucker of Enid, Oklahoma; Leonard Tucker, Jr. of Cushing, Oklahoma two sisters, Wanda Williams of Cushing, Oklahoma; Guendoyln (Brian) Argrow of Longmont, Colorado. Ten grandchildren, Aushia Harrison, Vincente’ Willis, Tierra Willis, Damon Sumlin, Adonis Sumlin, Aaliyah Sumlin, Adonica Sumlin, Akiliyah Sumlin, Tylan Sumlin, Aiyana Williams; three great-grandchildren, Jay’Ron, Jaiden, Kaleigh; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the First Baptist Church (South).
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 5, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
