Howard C. Phillips Sr., a longtime Cushing resident, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the age of 92. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the Cushing Christian Church, Cushing, OK. Pastor Jim Forrest will officiate. Interment will follow at Harrell Cemetery, Cushing, OK.

Family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, OK.

Howard was born on October 20, 1925 in Coal Hill, Arkansas to the late William A. and Annie G. (Black) Phillips. His family moved from Coal Hill to Okemah then later to Okmulgee area. Howard left school before graduating to help support his family. They owned a fruit and vegetable stand and he worked for the People’s Bakery.

Howard married the love of his life Anna Lee Dunagan on July 7, 1945 in Okmulgee, to this union Nancy, Howard, Joseph and Julia were born.

They lived for a short period of time in Okmulgee then moved to Clovis, New Mexico where he worked for the railroad. They then moved back to Okmulgee where he began working for Safeway then transferred to Cushing where they have lived since. He began working for Gene Smith Ford and later Foresee Chevrolet for sixteen years as a salesman then went out on his own as an independent car salesman. Howard could sell most anything to anyone. His passion was living on his farm. He enjoyed baling hay and his quarter horses. They attended the Church of the Nazarene in both Okmulgee and Cushing. He served as Sunday school superintendent for many years and served as an Auxiliary Policeman for the City of Cushing in the 1970’s. Howard loved spending time with his family. His grandchildren have fond memories on their time on the farm during the summer vacations and family get togethers.

Survivors include his children, Howard C. Phillips Jr. of Cushing, Julia Ann Howser and husband Brad of Cushing, brothers James Phillips and wife Blanche of Cushing and Bill Phillips and wife Shirley Mae of Cushing, sisters Jewel Cox of Meeker and Ann Shelton of Corydon, Iowa, Grandchildren Michelle Moles and husband Steve, Brian Hawes and wife Maggie, Amanda Phillips, Trey Phillips and wife Ashley, Nikki Morris and husband Erick, Kristen Phillips, Bradley Howser and wife Samantha, Zachary Howser and wife Chelsi, Colby Howser and wife Katherine and Emily Howser, great grandchildren Josh Moles, Courtney Hauck, Sylvia Morris, Megan Hawes, Caleb Hawes, Chelsea Collins, Madison Howser, Aubrey Hauck, Aly Moles, Alexa Dean, Bailey Dean, Dane Phillips, Meghan Howser, Bradley Howser, Alexander Howser, Samuel Howser, Kyra Phillips and Sylvia Morris.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Anna Phillips of 60 years, son Joseph D. Phillips, daughter Nancy Hawes, son-in-law Michael Lee Hawes, granddaughter Cynthia Ann Collins, brother Johnson Phillips and sisters Emma Jackson and Shirley Sue Haney.
